Meet The Founder/Owner
Hi and Welcome to Blossom! My name is Mandy Gaskill and I currently live with my husband Chad in Meridian, ID. I have 5 adult kids and 3 grandkids that all live in WA.
I got involved in special education as a parent, because 4 of my kids have special needs. I share this with you because this is why I do what I do. I am a parent who has struggled with the system, been through denial, heartbreak and all of the other wonderful feelings you walk away with (enter sarcasm here). My kids have made me who I am, a fighter, and for that I am grateful!
Currently I am a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. My job has taken me through many settings. I have worked in rehabilitation, schools and children’s home health. I have watched and participated in many IEP meetings. It always amazed me how some administrators make up their “own rules” and how many parents just do what they are told because they are being told by someone who you trust. I hear stories, horrible stories, of things that are told to parents and were shared with me. I loved becoming a COTA because that gave me more knowledge and more advocacy for my kids.
What I am hoping Blossom to be, is a place for workshops on special education in general. A place where parents and families can have a place to share ideas, thoughts and sometimes, their frustrations. Many families feel isolated and I want our spaces to be of comfort and advocacy. Blossom also has a Certified IEP coach (me), who knows most of the laws in and out. I am not an attorney, but I am a great researcher and can help in a variety of ways. I offer various services to help you and your family through the IFSP/IEP/504 processes.
Most importantly, Blossom Special Education Essentials was created to empower families through education. Workshops, classes, blogs, events, laws, and resources to help understand what you can do and how you can be the best advocate for your child.
